loanDepot is hiring an Underwriter to join our West Coast team. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting loans for successful transaction and sale, ensuring all duties are performed in accordance with company policy and federal regulations.
What You'll Do
- Underwrite 4–6 Conventional, USDA, FHA, and VA loans daily within a standard 24-48 hour turnaround.
- Analyze and issue credit decisions by reviewing financial statements, credit reports, DTI, and LTV ratios.
- Assess property risk by evaluating purchase contracts, escrow instructions, and preliminary title reports.
- Ensure transaction accuracy, completeness, and compliance, identifying red flags in documentation.
- Gather information from agency materials to make decisions and assign appropriate loan conditions.
- Assist the Processing Department with problematic files to expedite submissions.
- Effectively explain the rationale behind credit decisions to internal customers and auditors.
- Answer program guideline and borrower qualification questions from loan consultants and processors.
- Communicate effectively with internal staff to maintain a high level of customer service.
- Calculate complex income scenarios and assist with loan renegotiation based on lending guidelines.
What We're Looking For
- High School Degree or equivalent.
- A minimum of three (3)+ years of successful Conventional, FHA, and VA underwriting experience.
- Valid and current FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) certification.
- Proficiency in Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Prospector (LP) programs.
Nice to Have
- A minimum of six (6)+ years of professional experience within the mortgage lending industry.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- SAR certification.
