United Utility Power Services is hiring a UAS Pilot to provide critical ground and aerial field survey support for Transmission and Distribution (T&D) infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting visual and thermal data from power lines, poles, and equipment using unmanned aerial systems, with frequent travel and overnight stays required.
What You'll Do
- Conduct thorough pre-flight planning, including reviewing project requirements, assessing weather conditions, identifying hazards, and developing flight plans.
- Safely operate unmanned aerial systems to capture visual and thermal data of T&D poles, following all regulatory guidelines and best practices.
- Utilize UAS-mounted cameras and sensors to collect accurate and high-quality data, including images, thermal scans, and LiDAR.
- Conduct visual inspections of T&D poles using captured data, identify damage or wear, analyze data against standards, and provide detailed reports or recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations throughout UAS flight operations, mitigating risks near power lines and structures.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of UAS equipment, including batteries, propellers, cameras, and sensors.
- Effectively communicate with team members and project stakeholders to coordinate flights, share findings, and support decision-making.
- Stay updated on advancements in UAS technology, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices through training and professional development.
What We're Looking For
- Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience operating unmanned aerial systems, preferably in the T&D industry.
- Strong knowledge of T&D infrastructure, including power lines, poles, and related equipment.
- Proficiency in operating various UAS platforms and associated software, including flight planning and data analysis tools.
- Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and safety guidelines related to UAS operations in the T&D sector.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct visual and thermal inspections using UAS-mounted cameras and sensors.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting related to UAS inspections and surveys.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and troubleshoot technical issues during UAS operations.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and work within project teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in data collection, reporting, and documentation.
- A proactive problem solver, identifying and resolving technical issues and obstacles that arise in field conditions.
- A clean driving record is essential.
