Role Overview
This position is responsible for leading driver recruitment, training, and performance evaluation while ensuring full compliance with safety protocols and transportation regulations. The specialist ensures drivers are properly trained, mentored, and equipped to operate commercial vehicles safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the hiring and onboarding of transportation drivers.
- Conduct road tests and deliver hands-on behind-the-wheel instruction.
- Develop and facilitate training programs for new and current drivers, aligned with DOT and company standards.
- Track training progress and coordinate mentorship pairings with experienced drivers.
- Evaluate driver performance in daily operations and safety adherence.
- Guide drivers through pre- and post-trip inspection procedures and log documentation.
- Act as a backup instructor for CDL training initiatives.
- Support safety compliance through hazard assessments and retraining following incidents.
- Assist with audits of driver logs and electronic logging device records.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with DOT, MSHA, OSHA, EPA, and DNR regulations.
- Model safe work behaviors and intervene when unsafe practices occur.
- Support vehicle monitoring systems and collaborate with safety teams.
- Provide retraining after incidents, either independently or with mentor drivers, and assess task modifications when necessary.
- Maintain professional interactions with customers at worksites.
- Complete required documentation and support regulatory audits.
Qualifications
Required
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and commercial vehicle operations.
- Valid Class A or B CDL with current medical certification.
- Strong driving record and ability to maintain licensure.
- Previous experience as a commercial truck driver.
Preferred
- At least five years in the transportation sector.
- Background in training or driver development.
- Experience with electronic logging devices and vehicle inspection standards.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role with variable hours depending on season. During production season, shifts typically run Monday through Saturday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with Saturday availability as needed. In maintenance season, hours are generally Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional Saturdays. Schedules may shift due to weather or operational demands.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay ranges from $26.00 to $38.00 per hour.
