Emory University is hiring a Toddler Assistant Teacher to support our Catalyst programming. You will help plan and implement activities for children ranging from infant to school age, depending on location, ensuring a safe, healthy, and enriching environment that promotes social-emotional growth.
What You'll Do
- Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum connected to children's interests.
- Maintain intentional, enriched, and supportive learning environments for all children.
- Establish authentic, culturally responsive relationships with children, youth, families, and team members.
- Ensure proper supervision, positive interactions, and compliance to keep children healthy and safe.
- Work collaboratively with fellow staff to provide high-quality programs.
- Demonstrate positive interactions and maintain kind, respectful environments.
- Be present and on time on a regularly scheduled basis, active in both indoor and outdoor programs.
- Be physically and mentally capable of interacting with and meeting the needs of children up to 13 years of age.
- Implement safety guidelines, report incidents, and provide first aid if needed during emergencies.
- Visually inspect environments for hazards and take preventative actions.
- Be comfortable with occasional loud noise and frequent bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Push, lift, carry, and hold objects up to 15 lbs, such as equipment carts and classroom furnishings.
- Work indoors or outdoors in all safe weather conditions, traversing various terrains and heights.
- Adapt physically to children's level for activities and problem-solving.
- Supervise field trips to destinations like aquatic parks, beaches, and trampoline parks.
What We're Looking For
- 6 postsecondary semester or equivalent quarter units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field with passing grades of C- or better.
- OR a Regional Occupation Program certificate of training in child care issues accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Nice to Have
- 6 months of experience in a group care environment providing consistent care or teaching.
- Current adult and infant/child CPR & First Aid certification.
- Bilingual or multilingual language skills based on center needs.
- Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, classroom management, and communication with children and families.
- Effective organization, time management, and curriculum and assessment documentation skills.
- Ability to work alongside colleagues and maintain a professional team environment.
