WSP USA Inc. is looking for a Technical Manager, Transit & Rail Systems and Electrification Engineer to lead the planning, design, integration, and delivery of complex rail and transit systems and rolling stock. This senior role involves dynamic work across electrification and systems/signals engineering, requiring collaboration with diverse teams and stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Participate in requirements gathering, analysis, and traceability for complex, multi-disciplinary systems.
- Assist in developing system architectures, functional diagrams, Systems Breakdown Structures (SBS), and sequence diagrams.
- Support the creation of Interface Definition Documents (IDDs), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and Systems Integration Management Plans.
- Contribute to the development and execution of system testing and validation plans.
- Plan and participate in design reviews.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, contractors, vendors, and operators, to ensure effective system integration.
- Facilitate interface resolution workshops and design coordination meetings.
- Align design integration activities with project stage gates and delivery milestones.
- Ensure Validation and Verification (V&V) processes are fully defined and executed across interfacing systems.
- Support verification of integrated design compliance with system performance requirements, codes, standards, and client expectations.
- Continuously improve systems engineering processes and documentation standards.
- Interact with clients and stakeholders to communicate technical topics clearly and professionally.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure stakeholder needs are met and expectations managed.
- Oversee and develop high-level electrification requirements for upcoming procurements.
- Develop requirements for electrification upgrades, for both rehabilitation/refurbishment and new builds.
- Determine the need for contract addenda and modifications.
- Work closely with other SMEs to troubleshoot day-to-day issues.
- Plan and facilitate interface requirements for various electrification systems and network infrastructure.
- Review and make technical recommendations relating to electrification projects and proposals.
- Perform construction oversight and inspection services for ongoing electrification and rehabilitation projects.
- Conduct site visits to manufacturer's plants and facilities as part of the procurement process.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
- Support project planning and execution, including scope, schedule, and budget management.
- Demonstrate flexibility and leadership in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering with prior rolling stock engineering.
- High proficiency with engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build on major infrastructure projects.
- High proficiency in making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to regulations.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to mid-level and senior team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively, persuasively, and tactfully with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to testing results, data collation, statistical analysis, and arriving at effective solutions.
- Proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRail), technology, math principles, predictive models, and spreadsheets.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and conduct policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Willingness to travel occasionally depending on project needs.
