GE HealthCare is hiring a Technical Leader – Reactor Physics Technology (Remote Eligible, U.S.)

About the Role

GE HealthCare is looking for a Technical Leader – Reactor Physics Technology to support business units across the Engineering organization. You will lead engineers in the development, verification, validation, and maintenance of computational methods for nuclear and coupled nuclear/thermal-hydraulic evaluation of boiling water and small modular reactors.

What You'll Do

  • Provide support to the functional manager to plan, assign, and manage resources and schedules.
  • Provide technical leadership for nuclear and coupled nuclear/thermal-hydraulic methodologies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with teams and commercial leaders to understand work demands and provide inputs on team capability.
  • Perform manager review and approval of engineering technical deliverables.
  • Provide critical mentoring and coaching to team members and feedback on engineer performance.
  • Work with project and program managers to provide work planning, scheduling, and technical support for customer deliverables.
  • Advocate for, and lead, team process improvements to drive speed and simplification.
  • Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with NRC rules, customer requirements, and business quality standards.
  • Drive a team culture based on team work, integrity, candor, transparency, and execution on commitments.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate activities with other team members on engineering issues.
  • Lead the technical development, accuracy and uncertainty qualification, testing, regulatory licensing, and maintenance of analytical methods for reactor core performance evaluation.
  • Work within an approved regulatory framework for nuclear software quality assurance.
  • Prepare, document, and present technical data to internal and external customers.
  • Support teams working in various time zones globally.
  • Support the interface with regulatory agencies like the NRC and DOE.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, physics, computational methods or a closely related discipline AND minimum 6 years of experience specializing in Reload Design & Analysis, Thermal-Hydraulic Methods, Neutronics Methods, LOCA, Containment, and Stability Analysis, Radiological Analysis, or Transient Analysis AND demonstrated project management and resource allocation experience.
  • OR Master’s degree in a related discipline AND minimum of 4 years of experience in the above specialties AND demonstrated project management and resource allocation experience.
  • OR Ph.D. in a related discipline AND minimum of 2 years of experience in the above specialties AND demonstrated project management and resource allocation experience.

Nice to Have

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in computational methods, thermal-hydraulics, nuclear engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Prior experience with neutronic methods (e.g., MCNP, PARTISN, MC2-3, DIF3D).
  • Prior experience with thermal-hydraulic methods (e.g., TRAC, RELAP5-3D, COBRA).
  • Prior experience with P6 Primavera.
  • Experience with software Commercial Grade Dedication in accordance with NQA-1.
  • Programming experience with Fortran and Python.
  • Working knowledge of nuclear reactor core licensing, technical specifications, safety margin bases, code methodology licensing, and related federal regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy.
  • Exceptional organization skills.
  • Legacy of delivering on commitments; tenacious, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles.
  • Strong external focus; clear understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or equivalent quality certification.

Team & Environment

This role is within the Reactor Physics Technology (RPT) team, which is responsible for the development, maintenance, analytics, technical consultation, and licensing stewardship of engineering computer codes, correlations, and methodologies related to Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs) and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
