FuturLab is looking for a Technical Audio Designer to join us on a 6-month fixed-term contract for a 3-day work week. You will have sole responsibility for crafting and implementing all audio in an exciting new project, shaping the unique sound identity of our new ultra satisfying IP.
What You'll Do
- Take sole responsibility for the creation and implementation of all audio in a new project.
- Drive the audio identity of a new ultra satisfying IP.
- Help deliver a charming, warm, and satisfying player experience where SFX feel just right.
- Take creative direction from the Game Director and technical direction from the Lead Programmer.
- Use your technical skill and creative sensibility to define, track, deliver, and implement audio across the game.
- Deeply learn and understand the project's creative vision and mechanical documentation.
- Work effectively across Unity and FMOD.
- Confidently deliver the game's audio to specification and on schedule as the sole audio professional.
What We're Looking For
- Strong, proven experience with FMOD.
- Ability to create optimized event and parameter designs based on trigger and modulation needs.
- Experience with considered event grouping and mix bus routing for quality and accessibility.
- Skill in troubleshooting and resolving technical audio problems.
- Proficiency in using FMOD debug tooling to ensure memory and performance requirements are met.
- Comfort and effectiveness working as the sole audio professional on a development team.
- Ability to translate technical and creative direction into high-quality, tonally appropriate SFX and ambience.
- Strong creative instincts across a variety of genres and tones.
- An established portfolio with references to briefs and the corresponding work you delivered.
- Ability to go beyond a brief, challenging direction to arrive at the core of what is needed.
- Proficient in integrating FMOD audio assets into Unity projects.
- Proficient in implementing or providing direction for setting up event triggers and parameter modulation with Unity/C#.
- Proficient in asset management and source control workflows (Git and/or Perforce).
- Must be a UK resident and/or have a valid UK work permit.
Nice to Have
- Programming experience implementing/debugging audio behaviours in Unity using C# and the FMOD SDK APIs.
- Knowledge of spatial audio and occlusion (e.g., Resonance audio or 3rd party solutions).
- Experience with multi-platform development (PC/Mobile/Consoles).
- Experience with audio-driven haptic feedback design and implementation.
- Experience working on cosy or soothing game projects.
- Demonstrable familiarity, interest, or experience with satisfying or ASMR type SFX.

You will be the sole audio professional on the team, reporting to the Game Director for creative direction and the Lead Programmer for technical direction.
