UnitedHealth Group / Optum is hiring a Tech Project Consultant

This role involves leading the implementation of client delivery projects from contract to deployment. The consultant ensures project success by applying project and program management methodologies, managing risks, coordinating stakeholders, and adapting to evolving timelines and ambiguous conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive client delivery projects using structured methodologies such as project charters, Statements of Work, and Business Requirements Documents.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to define project scope, tasks, timelines, and resource needs.
  • Gather, analyze, and maintain financial forecasts and budget data, incorporating inputs from relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project status reporting, along with risk and issue management strategies including mitigation and acceptance plans.
  • Coordinate with delivery partners across a matrixed organization to track and manage work progress.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with clients, stakeholders, and leadership through written and verbal channels.
  • Remain available during client business hours, including participation in meetings aligned with client time zones.
  • Demonstrate adaptability to support seamless collaboration, timely responses, and continuous service delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in project planning, tracking, and using large data sets to inform analytical decisions.
  • Proven experience serving as a bridge between business and technical teams.
  • Background in the healthcare industry.
  • Strong ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely to senior leadership.

Nice to Have

  • PMP certification.
  • Six Sigma or Lean certification.
  • Experience in Risk Adjustment, HEDIS, Quality programs, health plan chart retrieval, and medical coding.
