Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction for Fool.com and Motley Fool Money, keeping product velocity and long-term code health in honest balance
- Stay hands-on: writing code, reviewing PRs, and pairing with your team daily
- Mentor and grow your direct reports through 1:1s, technical coaching, and real career development conversations
- Own production reliability for both platforms: incident response, observability, and continuous improvement of monitoring and alerting
- Partner with product, design, marketing, and business unit leadership to translate business goals into technical strategy
- Drive AI integration thoughtfully, both in production features and in how the team builds software
- Maintain and evolve the engineering standards, deployment processes, and tooling that keep the team shipping confidently
- Collaborate across business units to align technical decisions with broader company direction
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
- At least 2 years in a tech lead or senior+ capacity
- Fluent in Python
- Real production experience in Django
- Navigate and contribute to a Next.js codebase
- Deep, practical understanding of the HTTP request/response cycle, REST API design, and how web applications work end-to-end
- Worked with AWS services and modern observability tooling (Datadog, Sentry, or equivalents) in production
- Track record of mentoring and growing engineers—not just technically, but as people
- Integrated AI/LLM capabilities into production applications, or you're someone who's clearly been building toward it
Nice to Have
- Wagtail experience
- Experience leading high-traffic consumer web platforms
- Familiarity with content-driven sites and editorial workflows
- Comfort with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and modern testing approaches (Playwright or similar)

- The rough shape of your week: 25% hands-on coding and code review, 25% technical leadership and system design, 25% people leadership, 25% cross-functional collaboration and incident response. That split will shift. Some weeks are deep in code, others in planning or production support. Comfort with that variability is part of the job.
