What You'll Do
Guide a dedicated group of developers focused on a key user segment or business objective, ensuring technical execution aligns with product vision. Facilitate regular one-on-one meetings, monitor team capacity, and address blockers while maintaining consistent team coverage through thoughtful time-off coordination.
Lead agile rituals including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog refinement to maintain momentum and collaboration. Collaborate closely with product management and other technical leads to shape system architecture, define technical roadmaps, and ensure solutions are secure, maintainable, and built to scale.
Take ownership of full-cycle development—from design and testing to deployment and demonstration. Champion code quality, advocate for resolving technical debt with measurable insights, and help junior engineers grow through hands-on mentorship. Coordinate with QA to uphold high standards and define KPIs using Metabase to measure the real impact of your team’s work.
Requirements
- At least four years of experience developing and deploying production applications using Ruby on Rails
- Approximately one year of people leadership, including running regular 1:1s, mentoring engineers, and supporting professional development
- Proven track record leading development teams in agile environments
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clarify technical concepts for non-technical partners and resolve disagreements constructively
- Solid understanding of software fundamentals: SOLID principles, domain-driven design, efficient queries, and comprehensive testing practices
- Ability to balance rapid experimentation with long-term architectural integrity
- Ownership across the full development lifecycle, from backend logic to frontend integration, testing, and delivery
- Proficiency with development tools including Git, GitHub, Jira, and text editors, along with a lighthearted touch—like sharing a well-timed gif during code reviews
