PG&E is looking for a System Automation Engineer Intern to join us for a summer internship. As the vital link between the company and the widespread interconnection of generation, increased capacity demand, and system reliability improvements in California, you will work alongside experienced engineers to help ensure excellent service delivery for key projects.
What You'll Do
- Actively promote safe practices and conduct in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
- Accomplish the department goal of zero injuries & avoidable auto incidents.
- Foster teamwork, innovation and embrace new approaches to accomplish our work more efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality design products on budget and on time.
- Participate in project walkdown and project meetings.
- Identify SCADA deficiencies, prepare SCADA topology at a substation and issue Automation requirements.
- Provide construction drawing reviews.
- Engage and collaborate with vendors on training.
- Determine and issue relay settings for integrated station annunciators.
- Determine and issue IP_DNP addresses for integrated devices on LAN in a substation.
- Program Remote Terminal Unit (RTU).
- Troubleshoot automation equipment malfunctions.
- Assist in supporting new remote access and user authentication applications.
- Store the latest RTU configuration and point list on approved system of records.
- Work with and learn from other departments involved in Substations such as Maintenance, Construction, Distribution Planning, Standards, Protection, Automation, etc.
What We're Looking For
- Earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering degree or related discipline at an accredited University.
- Must be continuing their education toward a degree during and/or after the internship.
Nice to Have
- EIT or FE certification.
- 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA.
- Strong programming skills.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation.
- Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members.
- Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction.

Work with a team of experienced engineers within the System Automation Engineering Department.
Benefits & Compensation
- Hourly rate: $24.52 to $35.37 per hour.

This is a hybrid position based in West Sacramento.
