Carilion Clinic is hiring a Summer Internship - Department Secretary - Care Management

Carilion Clinic is looking for a Summer Intern - Department Secretary to join our Care Management team. In this role, you’ll gain practical, hands-on experience in healthcare while supporting departmental operations. You’ll work under the supervision of a department leader, contributing to daily tasks, strategic initiatives, and secretarial support functions.

What You’ll Do

• Work under the supervision of a department leader or designee to complete assigned duties.
• Assist with operational, administrative, or professional tasks aligned with department needs and your academic program.
• Observe, document, and communicate work progress, findings, or issues to the supervising leader or team.
• Interact and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Participate in staff meetings, project meetings, and interdisciplinary discussions as requested.
• Proactively seek out learning opportunities, manage time effectively, and appropriately prioritize assignments.
• Follow all organizational policies, procedures, ethical standards, and confidentiality requirements.
• Perform secretarial and administrative support for multiple individuals within the department.
• Provide basic secretarial support, such as typing correspondence, managing files, screening phone calls, and distributing mail.
• May be required to operate a switchboard.
• Perform administrative duties including processing, tracking, and managing data related to Accounts Payable, Payroll and Attendance, taking minutes, and managing department reports.

What We’re Looking For

• Two years of high school required.
• Ability to work efficiently, manage time wisely, and follow policies and procedures with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, and willingness to learn.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• For assignments that use chemicals or power tools, intern must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice to Have

• Some internships may require a bachelor’s degree; or enrollment in and nearing completion of an undergraduate or terminal degree in a field relevant to the internship.
• Clinical interns may be required to be enrolled in an accredited professional program (e.g., pharmacy, nursing, allied health) and meet regulatory or licensure-related requirements.
