Parsons Transportation Group is hiring a Structural Inspector

About the Role

Parsons is looking for a Structural Inspector to supervise and inspect structural works on a major project. In this role, you will ensure all work is performed in accordance with contract specifications while contributing to a culture that values people, embraces agility, and fosters growth.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct inspections to determine if work complies with contract specifications.
  • Perform inspection activities for the demolition and construction of structures like reservoirs, lifting stations, tunnels, and bridges.
  • Maintain office files, perform quantity calculations, and write daily diaries.
  • Prepare daily reports and other required contract documentation.
  • Verify only approved materials are incorporated into the work.
  • Perform labor compliance interviews and maintain as-built plans.
  • Recognize potential conflicts and issues, identify solutions, and advise your supervisor.
  • Collect, review, and file Certificates of Compliance, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), inspection tags, and other material information.
  • Report on installed quantities to verify payment applications and change order work.
  • Coordinate the work of subconsultants for surveying and material testing.
  • Assist with developing job safety practices and reports.
  • Support the creation of quality control procedures and reports.
  • Respond to call backs for emergencies at the project site.
  • Document nonconformance and may participate in determining appropriate resolutions.
  • May provide technical guidance to lower-level inspectors.
  • Perform work in a safe manner, cognizant of public safety.

What We're Looking For

  • A diploma or bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working as a structural inspector within the region.
  • Knowledge of public works contracts and construction-related processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Effective math skills, including knowledge of engineering calculations, graphs, and charts.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Project Management Software, and internet search engines.
  • Ability to understand and comply with project requirements per client and industry standards.
  • Effective diary and reporting skills.
  • Knowledge of English grammar and composition.
  • Understanding of scheduling.
  • Ability to review progress pay estimates and extra work bills.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous work conditions and take necessary action.
  • Effective time management skills to proactively prepare for work assignments.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cohesively in a team and/or dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to use good judgement and work with others.

Nice to Have

  • Authority certification/approvals in a related field and HSE training.
  • Construction safety training, including 10 hours of OSHA training.
