Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors seeks a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to take ownership of building and scaling advanced AI-driven products from research to production. You will design distributed architectures, work with massive datasets, and leverage state-of-the-art machine learning models, including NLP and LLM-based systems, while driving best practices and mentoring engineers.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and deploy distributed machine learning systems and libraries with company-wide impact.
- Build, integrate, and maintain pipelines for processing large-scale datasets, including NLP tasks such as summarization, relation extraction, entity recognition, and classification.
- Partner with product managers and engineers to shape AI product direction and technical strategy.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, ensuring high-quality, reliable systems.
- Mentor and coach engineers, promoting best practices, robust design patterns, and a culture of technical excellence.
- Continuously evaluate and adopt new technologies and methods to enhance AI capabilities and team skill sets.
What We're Looking For
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years as a backend software engineer integrating and deploying ML-driven functionality.
- Mastery of data structures and algorithms with practical application in scalable systems.
- Proficiency in authoring APIs in Python or Golang.
- Proven ability to mentor and guide engineers across technical and product domains.
- Strong curiosity, enthusiasm, and commitment to continuous learning and teaching.
- Eligible to work from San Francisco, CA, Pasadena, CA, or Washington, DC.
Nice to Have
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools (e.g., NumPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Experience with LLMs and NLP is a strong plus.
