Celestica is hiring a Staff Engineer, Mechanical Design to act as a global Subject Matter Expert in mechatronics. In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of complex Semiconductor capital equipment, providing technical direction to global teams and managing the full product lifecycle from concept to production.
What You'll Do
- Lead the end-to-end design of complex mechatronic systems, ensuring seamless integration between mechanical, electronic, and software components.
- Analyze complex system trade-offs to recommend optimized architectural solutions and deployment strategies.
- Partner with global customers to define the Engineering Scope of Work required to transition prototypes into high-volume production.
- Perform rigorous engineering calculations and simulations to validate system performance.
- Ensure all designs comply with client standards and international regulations like UL, CE, and ISO.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert, providing technical direction and mentorship to global engineering teams.
- Manage strategic relationships with vendors to source cutting-edge mechatronic components.
- Lead cross-functional cost-reduction exercises to optimize existing designs.
- Finalize production-ready designs and GD&T-compliant prints, providing support during manufacturing.
- Utilize field data to lead the upgrade or optimization of existing automated machinery.
- Facilitate and present technical designs to management, cross-functional teams, and customers for design reviews.
- Partner with business development to provide technical validation during the pre-sales phase.
- Lead 'Discovery' sessions with clients to extract requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Travel to customer sites as needed to lead design reviews, oversee deployments, or troubleshoot issues.
- Distill complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact to manage design changes and technical alignment throughout the project.
What We're Looking For
- Six to ten years of relevant experience in mechatronics and machine design.
- Hands-on experience with hardware integration and testing of mechatronic components.
- Proven ability to design industrial robotics, automation systems, power transmissions, and electromechanical subassemblies.
- Deep knowledge of machined parts, sheet metal, welded frames, and piping/routing, including material selection.
- Expert-level use of CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Siemens NX. Proficiency in 2D production prints and GD&T.
- Ability to define high-level system architecture for complex mechatronic environments.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, control logic, and embedded systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical systems, including sensor/actuator integration and power distribution.
- Familiarity with international regulatory standards, including UL, CE, and ISO.
- Experience executing V&V protocols to ensure system performance and reliability.
- Strong analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving complex, multi-disciplinary engineering failures.
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with FEA/CFD analysis and DFMEA methodologies.
- Fabrication experience in assembly, sheet metal production, welding, or CNC machining.
- Experience with Semiconductor capital equipment.
