Covetrus is hiring a Staff Accountant I to play a vital role in maintaining our financial integrity. You will ensure accurate recording of transactions, help drive the period-end close process, and collaborate across our accounting and finance teams.
What You'll Do
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes, ensuring GAAP compliance.
- Prepare and upload journal entries with appropriate support, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Conduct month-end tracking, review, and reconciliation of expense accruals and general ledger account balances.
- Support other Finance Department associates in achieving departmental KPI targets.
- Collect sample data for SOX testing and maintain SOX documentation for audit review.
- Assist internal and external auditors by providing supporting schedules, account analysis, and reconciliations.
- Review exception reports, investigating significant variances and unexpected results.
- Identify and propose process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet deadlines and ensure timely financial reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information and uphold high standards of integrity.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel and other software to design models that streamline accounting processes.
- Participate in special projects as directed by management.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in public or private accounting or finance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with general ledger and financial reporting systems.
- Advanced understanding of US GAAP and familiarity with internal controls.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Excellent multitasking abilities and adaptability to shifting priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Creative problem-solving skills and a commitment to continual learning.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and work effectively as part of a team.
Nice to Have
- CPA designation or CPA track.
- Public accounting/audit experience.
- Experience with AS-400.
- Experience with multiple entity/subsidiary organizations and intercompany transactions.
