Corning, a world leader in materials science innovation, is hiring a Sr. Staff Engineer, Electrical Systems Engineering to join our Capital Projects and Facilities engineering team. This role is central to deploying new technologies and expanding our manufacturing capabilities through the design and construction of new facilities and equipment lines.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement electrical power systems for facility expansions, greenfield facilities, and new equipment installations.
- Implement robust, reliable, and cost-effective electrical power systems.
- Participate in all project phases: design, fabrication, integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, and plant personnel training.
- Manage the electrical engineering scope for process improvements, capital expansion, and power reliability projects.
- Lead failure analysis and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in the power field.
- Experience designing, building, and analyzing industrial equipment such as transformers, switchgear, UPS, ATS, industrial control panels, or industrial machinery.
- Deep knowledge of MV and LV facility electrical power systems, power system control design and analysis, including experience with solid-state components (SCRs, IGBTs).
- Experience conducting failure analysis, autopsies, and providing troubleshooting guidance for electrical equipment.
- Experience performing short circuit current calculations, protection and coordination studies, Arc Flash studies, and system reliability calculations.
- Ability to scope projects, develop cost models and resource plans, create project timelines and metrics, and execute projects through commissioning and turnover.
- Availability for significant domestic travel to multiple locations; international travel may also be required.
Nice to Have
- Experience conducting factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT).
- Experience with failure and root cause analysis of high-power industrial control cabinets and transformers.
- Knowledge of power system reliability calculations combined with system automation, maintenance programs, and operations.
- Proficiency in failure analysis of electrical equipment.
- Useable knowledge of standards: NFPA 70B, NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, GB 5226.1, IEEE 493, NETA ATS, NETA MTS.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers in technology and career growth.
- Professional Engineer licensure or willingness to obtain it.
Team & Environment
You will be part of the Capital Projects and Facilities engineering team within Corning's Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering division (MTE), responsible for scoping, designing, and constructing facilities and equipment lines across the company.
