This position supports the deployment and upkeep of solar power installations across the Rockford, IL area. The Solar Electrician ensures all electrical components are properly installed, maintained, and repaired in compliance with safety standards and project specifications.
What You'll Do
Identify potential safety risks and follow protocols to protect yourself, coworkers, and the public. Interpret technical documents such as schematics, blueprints, and control diagrams to carry out daily electrical tasks under the supervision of a Lead Electrician. Perform installation, removal, testing, and repair of solar site equipment including panels, inverters, transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and SCADA systems.
Complete and maintain accurate records including work orders, calibration logs, time entries, and material requisitions. Train and supervise apprentice electricians, ensuring they follow safe practices and proper procedures when using tools and handling equipment. Adapt to changing schedules and support on-call needs as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in industrial solar electrical maintenance
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Understanding of AC and DC electrical principles, including voltage and current behavior
- Ability to complete required training and assessments
- Physical capacity to climb, bend, lift, stand for long durations, work at heights, and use hands and arms overhead
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Solar PV systems
- OSHA certification or safety training
- Willingness to travel and support variable shifts or on-call duties
