Univar Solutions is seeking a Senior Lab Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting a wide range of analytical instruments to ensure quality control and support process health assessment through detailed chemical analysis.
What You'll Do
- Know and understand all site-specific rules and regulations, aligning with company policies.
- Utilize GC, HPLC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and other techniques to analyze chemical compounds and test samples for quality control.
- Monitor inventory of consumables and reagents to ensure sufficient supplies.
- Run different analytical equipment and collaborate on developing new test methods.
- Assist engineers in assessing process health through lab data mining and correlation.
- Own hands-on physical analysis, including sample preparation and distribution.
- Perform assignments that may include a wide array of laboratory techniques, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Perform wastewater sample analysis for analytes such as COD, TN, Ammonia, and metals.
- Perform PCR analysis for different wastewater streams.
- Conduct routine sample preparation and analysis per SOPs/BKMs; log, organize, and verify samples; update lab databases.
- Review laboratory QC and results for accuracy; communicate findings and trends to engineers, technicians, and stakeholders.
- Support method development and optimization.
- Prepare reagents/solutions, maintain analytical supplies, and coordinate ordering to sustain lab operations.
- Maintain a clean, safe lab environment (glassware washing, contamination control), adhere to PPE requirements, and identify/report safety hazards.
- Work safely with a goal of zero incidents.
- Perform instrument maintenance and comply with all company policies.
- Perform all other duties as required.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Bio-Chem, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related Science/Engineering discipline with a minimum of 3 years of Laboratory experience OR a Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience operating, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting analytical instruments such as LC-MS, IC, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, TOC, LCMS-QQQ, CIC.
- Analytical or wastewater laboratory experience performing analysis for water quality analytes such as Turbidity, pH, TOC, Total Nitrogen, Ammonium, Metals, COD, and others.
- Experience with biological treatment system health monitoring.
- Customer service skills.
- Experience developing new analytical methods on the specified instrumentation.
