GE Vernova is hiring a Senior Engineer – Reactor Design to support the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project. You will be responsible for developing design specifications, creating and maturing design concepts, providing procurement support, generating drawings and documentation, and providing testing oversight.
What You'll Do
- Execute Mechanical Component Design activities supporting GVH’s BWRX-300 SMR.
- Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership, support project scheduling, develop talent through mentorship, and act as the point-of-contact between your engineering team and customers.
- Take personal responsibility for design impact and associated risk.
- Maintain open communication with interfacing engineers and stakeholders, considering customer needs.
- Operate in a matrixed team to ensure deliverables meet customer, business, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the analysis, design, test, and integration of mechanical components and equipment.
- Perform fundamental engineering hand calculations and modeling.
- Prepare and present design reviews and technical reports.
- Lead discussions and facilitate information exchange within a matrixed team.
- Collaborate with experts in other functions to ensure product designs meet all requirements.
- Work closely with Sourcing and Fabricators to provide technical support.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect competitive technology.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 8 years of mechanical component design experience.
- Professional Engineering License, preferably for Ontario.
- Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international sites less than 10%.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Ability to report onsite to the Markham office 2 days a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
Nice to Have
- 9+ years performing independent or team-based component design, technical reviews, requirements management, risk tracking, and fabrication support.
- 9+ years of experience with applicable industry standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, BWRVIP).
- Prior nuclear industry experience, especially with BWR, PWR, or complex mechanical equipment design.
- Experience with Sodium Fast Reactor technology and design.
- Experience with Control Rod Drives or Fine Motion Control Rod Drives.
- Experience with Nuclear Core & Fuel design.
- Experience with lifting and rigging equipment selection, load path definition, and alignment with ANSI/ASME.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and implement changes.
- Working knowledge of modern fabrication processes and practices.
- Familiarity with tolerances, jointure, welding, and material selection.
- Experience with fabrication techniques like machining, welding, and EDM.
- Familiarity with Lean.
- Experience with Inventor, Inventor Vault, and product lifecycle management software.
- Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills.
- Proven ability to think strategically and work efficiently.
- Knowledge of Geometric Design & Tolerancing (GD&T) practices.
- Knowledge of the ASME/AWS codes.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD design.
- Proficiency with ANSYS Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

Work Mode
This is a hybrid position based in Markham, Canada, with onsite requirements 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
