The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County is hiring a Sports and Recreation Assistant (Impact Lead I – Sports, Fitness & Recreation). In this essential role, you will help youth succeed by serving as a positive role model, mentor, and activity leader. You'll provide leadership in recruiting youth and facilitating healthy lifestyle programs, ensuring a safe and positive environment, and contributing to strategic program planning.
What You'll Do
- Recruit youth to participate and facilitate Healthy Lifestyle programs: sports, nutrition/fitness, recreation, field trips, and sports leagues.
- Facilitate BGCMC programs during intercession periods.
- Monitor progress and take action accordingly, with emphasis on youth reach and impact.
- Assist with both SFR and club-wide special events.
- Provide youth a safe, positive environment – both physically and emotionally including assuming responsibility as a mandated reporter.
- Uphold high expectations for youth and provide frequent recognition.
- Address youth behavior with a positive discipline approach that is fair, firm, consistent and kind.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness of program spaces.
- Model conduct as a role model and mentor for youth.
- Contribute to strategic program planning and facilitate implementation with clarity of goals, roles, and responsibilities.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 months experience working with youth ages 6-18 years old.
- Minimum of 6 months experience coaching and/or implementing sports, fitness and/or recreation programs.
- Demonstrated classroom management ability.
- Tech savvy, including proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Google Work Space and Internet for maximum productivity.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position including standing at least 50% of the time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Successful completion of all pre-employment screening requirements including: Live Scan fingerprinting, Background check, Drug & Alcohol screening.
Nice to Have
- Educational background in Health and Physical Fitness.
- Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement.
- Cultural competence and ability to work with a diverse youth and people.
- First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $19.00 to $19.96 per hour.
- 40 hours of paid California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave.
