Washington University in St. Louis is hiring a remote Special Billing and Collections Coordinator for its Department of Medicine. This position coordinates professional billing activities in compliance with the No Surprise Billing Act (NSBA). You will manage good faith estimates, process payments, and coordinate authorizations for self-pay services and patients with non-contracted plans using Epic tools.
What You'll Do
- Work Epic WQs and reports to identify and verify non-contracted coverage assignment, uninsured, and self-pay services.
- Complete the good faith estimate process in Epic for scheduled self-pay services, uninsured patients, and patients with non-contracted plans in specific settings.
- Communicate with patients and process payments prior to service date.
- Work with division, clinical, and scheduling teams on the Epic referral triage process.
- Engage with pre-arrival, pre-certification, and WUPN staff to secure out-of-network authorizations and single case agreements, or ensure services are canceled if not obtained.
- Serve as the liaison for the department, division, patients, and affiliated hospital systems to coordinate notification, consent, signature, good faith estimate delivery, and authorization when applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- A high school diploma or equivalent high school certification, or a combination of education and/or experience.
- 5 years of billing or insurance experience.
Nice to Have
- 2 years of college or business school.
- Skills in communication, computer literacy, confidential data handling, medical terminology, office equipment, payment collections, and telephone system.
Technical Stack
- Epic tools, including WQs, reports, and modules/applications.
