Prisma International, Inc. is hiring an Spanish Interpreter as an independent contractor to provide in-person on-site interpretation (OSI) assignments across Washington state. In this role, you will facilitate clear and accurate communication between government representatives and Limited English Proficient (LEP) speakers.
What You'll Do
- Provide consecutive or simultaneous on-site Spanish interpretation between a government representative and non-English speakers.
- Deliver correct concepts and meanings with proper grammar, clarity, and tone.
- Follow the speakers’ direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of the conversation.
- Refrain from side conversations with the LEP individual and from entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP speaker.
- Comply with all applicable ethics and professional standards.
What We're Looking For
- At least one (1) year of on-site consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience.
- Two (2) professional references that can vouch for your on-site interpreting work.
- Must be 18+ years or older with a High School Diploma.
- Must reside within the state of Washington.
- Full fluency in both English and Spanish.
- One of the following accreditations: Washington State DSHS Language Testing and Certification (LTC), American Translation Association (ATA), or training/accreditation through a higher education institution.
- An active Washington State Patrol background check or ability to provide a background clearance that meets or exceeds that standard.
Nice to Have
- Experience interpreting for Washington state agencies such as WA Department of L&I, WA State Patrol, WA Department of Agriculture, or WA Department of Commerce.
- Interpreting experience in the education, healthcare, legal, medical, government, or court industries.
Team & Environment
You will join an independent contractor team, working autonomously on assigned interpretation engagements.
Work Mode
This is an on-site position requiring travel to various locations within Washington state for in-person assignments.
