Solids Control Field Technician - Canada - Remote
Join Stage 3 Separation as a Solids Control Field Technician. In this critical role, you will oversee mechanical processes to enhance drilling operations and recycle drilling fluid through closed loop and other mud systems. You will receive comprehensive on-the-job training on specialized equipment, work a demanding rotational schedule at remote project sites across Canada, and be part of a culture dedicated to safety, teamwork, and operational integrity.
What You'll Do
- Oversee mechanical processes used to provide enhanced drilling operations and recycled drilling fluid through closed loop and other mud systems.
- Receive on-the-job training on a variety of specialized Stage 3 equipment.
- Work 12-hour shifts on a 14 days on and 7 days off rotational schedule (schedule varies by job site).
- Work a swing rotation from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM or 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Job shadow with an experienced Technician and Field Leader.
- Travel domestically to remote locations throughout Canada.
- Be assigned to a project or multiple projects (when required).
- Learn how to rig up and rig down equipment.
- Learn and operate a variety of solids control equipment including shaker tanks, centrifuge, drying equipment, and pumps.
- Develop basic knowledge, or use current knowledge, of Environmental Services.
- Gain an understanding of basic electrical principles.
- Develop an understanding of drilling fluid properties including fluid weight, funnel viscosity, retort analysis, etc., and perform fluid analysis.
- Learn how to perform various solids control services such as air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, floc water, fluid transfers, target low gravity solids, cuttings drying/invert recovery, etc.
- Learn how to perform basic routine maintenance services and routine electrical services on various equipment.
- Learn how to operate heavy machinery, safely and efficiently, with supervision.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment by using a variety of pressure washing equipment.
- Attend and actively participate in daily safety meetings.
- Complete daily PJRA/JSA, inspection reports, observation reports, and checklists, as required.
- Wear proper PPE while working on a job site.
- Always abide by safety protocols.
- Input routine data into various systems including company Portal.
- Operate an excavator, forklift, or Wheel Loader daily.
- Keep shared living quarters clean and orderly.
- Advance to Field Level 1 by passing a Performance Evaluation and competency test(s).
What We're Looking For
- Must be able to work 14 days on and 7 days off.
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts (rotation), daily, including overtime.
- Must be able to work a Swing (rotation) from 12:00PM to 12:00AM or 12:00AM to 12:00PM.
- Must be able to travel domestically to remote locations, throughout Canada.
- Must be mechanically inclined with comprehension for electronics.
- Must be a problem solver and use time efficiently.
- Must have ability to develop professional relationships with everyone working on the rig.
- Must be customer service oriented, learning how to use diplomacy and tact.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (cold, wet, and hot).
- Must have the ability to be away from home for 14 days or longer, to complete scheduled rotation (hitch).
- Must be able to read, write and comprehend English.
- High School diploma, or GED equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have basic Microsoft Office experience including Outlook.
- Must have a valid Provincial driver’s license, valid insurance, and an acceptable (low to zero demerits) driving record.
- This position requires a valid driver’s license (Class 5 in AB/BC/SK or Class G in ON, or equivalent in another province/territory).
- This position has been designated as safety-sensitive. As a condition of employment, you may be required to undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol testing (urine and/or breath analysis).
Nice to Have
- 2-year Associate’s degree or technical diploma, in Technology, Electronics, or Mechanics, or similar field, is preferred.
- Prior Forklift, Excavator, or Wheel Loader experience, or Certifications, is/are preferred.

- Will achieve certification(s) to operate equipment (e.g., excavator, forklift, Wheel Loader).
- Will earn certifications for various Rig Safety programs including H2S, WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and CPR/First Aid.
- Certification training will be provided prior to working on a job site.
Work Mode
Onsite at remote locations across Canada. You will be hired for our Calgary office but will work on various project-based work sites nationwide. The role follows a fixed rotational schedule: 14 days on, 7 days off with 12-hour shifts.
