State Street is hiring a Smart Contract Developer

About the Role

StateStreet is hiring a Smart Contract Developer to join our Digital Asset Development team. This is a hands-on, security-focused role where you will design, develop, test, and deploy smart contracts that underpin institutional digital asset capabilities like tokenization and wallet management.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement robust, efficient, and secure smart contracts for EVM and non-EVM networks, aligning contract behavior with product requirements.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to translate business logic into decentralized logic, ensuring correctness and resilience.
  • Develop and maintain smart contracts supporting tokenization and lifecycle operations, including patterns for institutional needs like permissioning and upgradeable proxies.
  • Build comprehensive unit and integration tests and contribute to quality gates for contract releases.
  • Perform internal security reviews and support external audits, proactively identifying and mitigating common smart contract vulnerabilities.
  • Own and evolve the smart contract toolchain, including development environments, static analysis, and testing frameworks.
  • Build and maintain smart contract CI/CD workflows to automate build, test, and analysis artifacts.
  • Contribute to engineering excellence through code reviews, documentation, and maintaining high standards of security and quality.
  • Coordinate with third-party auditors by preparing audit-ready packages, facilitating walkthroughs, and driving remediation cycles.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong, demonstrable experience developing smart contracts in Solidity or a similar language with a security-first mindset.
  • Experience across the full smart contract lifecycle: design, build, test, deploy, and maintain.
  • Experience with token standards, advanced token models, and institutional patterns like permissioned tokens and proxy/upgrade patterns.
  • Strong knowledge of secure coding practices for smart contracts and ability to identify common vulnerability classes.
  • Proficiency with smart contract development and deployment tools like Hardhat and modern testing patterns.
  • Understanding of EVM / Ethereum fundamentals, including the smart contract execution model.
  • Web3 integration experience using libraries like Ethers.js or Web3.js to interact with contracts and integrate functionality.
  • Strong understanding of blockchain cryptography fundamentals, including public/private key cryptography and signing/verification concepts.

Nice to Have

  • Experience building dApps and integrating front ends with smart contracts.
  • Familiarity with institutional digital asset platform components such as tokenization, smart contract management, and wallet management.
  • Knowledge of gas optimization, scalability techniques, and gasless transaction approaches.
  • Exposure to microservices and back-end integration in modern stacks like NodeJS, Java, or C#, and experience producing technical documentation.
  • Experience developing for non-EVM smart contract platforms like Canton/DAML, Stellar, or Solana.

Technical Stack

  • Solidity, EVM, Hardhat, Ethers.js, Web3.js
  • NodeJS, Java, C#

Team & Environment

You will join the Digital Asset Development team.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Inclusive development opportunities
  • Flexible work-life support
  • Paid volunteer days
  • Vibrant employee networks
