The SEO Strategist is a client-facing role at Directive Consulting responsible for creating and managing custom SEO and content strategies for B2B clients, primarily in the SaaS industry. The role leverages Directive's Customer Generation methodology to drive measurable revenue growth through strategic planning, performance tracking, and strong client relationships.
What You'll Do
- Create custom strategies and implement best practices for clients to achieve NSMs (Net Strategy Metrics)
- Use project phase as a foundational moment for building initial client strategy
- Optimize and revise strategies over the lifetime of the client based on marketing goals, campaigns, and historical performance
- Work closely with Associate Director (AsD) when roadblocks arise that impact strategy and goal attainment
- Craft creative briefs and compelling content campaigns with a focus on ideation based on competitor and audience insights
- Use best practices such as LTV:CAC modeling, Customer Generation, Share of SERP, Content Production, and goal setting to inform strategies
- Use available data to set goals for clients during their engagement period
- Ensure all goals are reviewed and approved by Associate Director (AsD) before presenting to the client
- Use data sources including Google Analytics, CRM data, SEMRush reporting, and Ahrefs reporting for goal setting
- Publish goals to clients alongside Associate Director (AsD)
- Ensure planned strategy is executed through effective project management
- Use Asana as the required project management tool
- Delegate tasks to team members (e.g., Specialists), clients, and ensure timely completion
- Partner with Project Managers (when present) to ensure tasks are created, assigned, and due dates are met and communicated to the client
- Work closely with content writers and designers to complete content campaigns on time
- Ensure content quality meets client standards
- Serve as the main interface between clients and internal teams
- Build relationships with clients beyond deliverables and get to know them on a human level
- Proactively communicate timeline expectations for deliverables, goal attainment progress, and use shared channels like Slack between bi-weekly meetings
- Send deliverables on a regular cadence, not just during bi-weekly meetings
- Proactively communicate with internal leadership about roadblocks, opportunities for account growth, and moments of change (e.g., strategy changes, internal client marketing changes, point of contact changes)
- Regularly report to clients on strategy progress and impact
- Conduct bi-weekly meetings with clients, reporting on NSM progress and ongoing deliverables
- Deliver monthly reports
- Deliver quarterly reports
- Deliver 2 bi-annual business review presentations
- Regularly look for opportunities for clients to grow their business with Directive
- Identify upsell, cross-sell, and referral opportunities
- Ask for referrals at key moments such as when a point of contact starts a new job or leaves a 5 CSAT score
What We're Looking For
- Proven track record of success around implementing SEO principles and content strategy: keyword research, on-page optimization, and link building
- Analytical insight: ability to analyse website traffic and SEO metrics using tools like Google Analytics
- Strong communication skills: comfortable client-facing and owning relationships with key stakeholders
- Strong familiarity with industry tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, SEMRush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog/crawling tools
- Proven organisational, project, and time management skills
- Genuine enthusiasm for digital marketing, SEO and content
- Must have agency experience
- Must have B2B tech and/or SaaS experience
- Driven to stay ahead of industry trends, including actively learning how AI and automation can enhance marketing and operations

Compensation: $75,000-95,000 USD annually, plus annual bonus based on tenure and a 3% company 401(k) match.
Work Mode
Remote-first with option to work from state-of-the-art offices in Irvine, CA; global opportunities available where Directive has established businesses. This role is open to candidates in the US (remote), Irvine, California (onsite option), Canada, UK, and Australia.
