About the Role

NEC Software Solutions is hiring a Senior User Researcher for a 6-month fixed-term contract. You will plan, facilitate, and lead user research activities on complex projects, championing a user-centred design approach, often with clients new to UCD. This autonomous role requires managing projects and working hand-in-hand with diverse clients.

What You'll Do

  • Plan, facilitate, and lead user research activities on a variety of projects.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams on complex projects, requiring autonomy and project management.
  • Champion the company's user-centred design approach with clients.
  • Lead and direct projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams and clients towards inclusive, accessible, and effective research outcomes.
  • Help define how disciplines work together and progress how the studio delivers inclusive, accessible, and effective design.
  • Work hand-in-hand with clients, sometimes embedded in their teams for projects.
  • Move between different sectors after 3-12 months for varied experience.
  • Support other User Researchers at weekly meet-ups, sharing work and discussing wider implications.
  • Work closely with members of Digital teams, including interaction and content designers, and developers.

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrable Senior User Research Experience.
  • Experience working with Multidisciplinary Project Teams.
  • Experience working on GDS or Public Sector Projects.
  • Must be eligible for NPPV3 clearance.
  • Experience conducting inclusive research in an ethical way, identifying accessibility needs and making adjustments.
  • Experience in qualitative analysis and synthesis to produce user journeys, stories, and needs.
  • Skilled facilitation in sessions like user interviews, usability testing, co-analysis, and co-synthesis.
  • Strong written communication to share findings in an engaging way.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to produce clear insights for informed design decisions.
  • Proactive and autonomous, able to lead conversations and add value.
  • Stakeholder management skills to negotiate and guide clients towards positive outcomes.
  • Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity in UCD projects.

Team & Environment

Part of NEC Digital Studio, working with multidisciplinary teams. You will be supported by more senior members of the User Research team.
