At Oura, we build products that empower people to own their inner potential. We are looking for a Senior Tooling Quality Engineer to own quality standards and validation for our complex molding and tooling processes. You will act as the ultimate gatekeeper for product quality, bridging upstream part quality and downstream Final Assembly, Test, and Pack (FATP) processes.
What You'll Do
- Define and enforce quality standards, acceptance criteria, defect catalogs, and cosmetic/dimensional specifications for molding components and FATP processes.
- Develop inspection and test strategies, implementing and validating Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and in-line testing methodologies with strict pass/fail limits.
- Drive upstream Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE), managing quality performance of tooling and molding part suppliers, overseeing FAIs, PPAPs, and supplier audits.
- Validate FATP molding processes as the independent quality gate for equipment and process qualifications (IQC/OQC/IPQC).
- Monitor and audit process capability using statistical process control (SPC) and data analytics to track FATP molding performance.
- Establish and govern robust quality frameworks including Control Plans, pFMEAs, and SOPs for molding lines.
- Partner with tooling designers and process engineers from early development through mass production, providing DFM feedback and supporting DOEs.
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, SQE, or Manufacturing Quality, with a specific focus on establishing standards for tooling, plastic injection molding, transfer molding, or epoxy encapsulation.
- Proven track record working in high-volume consumer electronics manufacturing, ideally with small form factors or wearables.
- Deep hands-on experience designing, qualifying, and setting parameters for manual cosmetic inspection, Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems/vision systems, and in-line mechanical testing.
- Mastery of statistical analysis and quality engineering tools (JMP, Six Sigma methodologies, CPK/CP, Gauge R&R) to measure process capability and inspection reliability.
- Ability to seamlessly switch between auditing a component supplier's dimensional report and establishing cosmetic limits for the final FATP assembly line.
- Assertive and collaborative mindset, comfortable being the objective voice of quality and holding cross-functional teams and factories accountable.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, with ability to clearly distill complex inspection data into undeniable facts.
- Ability to travel globally to supplier and contract manufacturing sites up to 40%.
Technical Stack
- Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), Statistical Process Control (SPC), JMP
- Six Sigma methodologies, CPK/CP, Gauge R&R
- First Article Inspections (FAI), Part Production Approval Process (PPAP)
- Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (pFMEA), Control Plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Design of Experiments (DOEs)
Team & Environment
You will be a key player on the Hardware NPI Quality team.
