About the Role
The Senior Sustainability & Resilience Specialist leads efforts to incorporate environmental stewardship and climate preparedness into transportation projects. This includes conducting technical analyses, guiding compliance, and advising teams on best practices to meet regulatory and organizational sustainability goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead sustainability assessments for transportation projects using established frameworks and metrics.
- Develop climate resilience strategies to address risks from extreme weather and long-term environmental changes.
- Support environmental compliance efforts across federal, state, and local regulations.
- Integrate sustainability principles into project planning, design, and implementation phases.
- Conduct life cycle assessments and carbon footprint analyses for infrastructure components.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify low-impact materials and construction methods.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for environmental reviews and permitting.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather input and communicate sustainability goals.
- Stay current with evolving sustainability standards, policies, and industry best practices.
- Assist in setting organizational sustainability targets and tracking performance metrics.
- Support grant applications and funding proposals related to climate resilience initiatives.
- Facilitate workshops and meetings to align project teams around sustainability objectives.
- Evaluate adaptation measures for transportation systems under various climate scenarios.
- Contribute to environmental justice analyses in project-affected communities.
- Use geographic information systems (GIS) and other tools for spatial analysis of environmental data.
- Provide technical guidance on green infrastructure and nature-based solutions.
- Coordinate with external consultants and agencies on joint sustainability efforts.
- Review project deliverables for consistency with sustainability commitments.
- Promote innovation in sustainable transportation planning and design.
- Help prepare certifications for green building or sustainable infrastructure rating systems.
