At Endeavour, we are building the infrastructure of tomorrow. We are looking for a Senior Scientist to join our R&D team, reporting directly to the R&D Director. You will lead product development for innovative carbon-based building materials, taking concepts through to manufacturing.
What You'll Do
- Pilot and execute research on new carbon-based building materials to deliver validated prototypes and experimental data.
- Design and execute development plans to take research leads through manufacturing to deliver new commercial products.
- Drive the full product development cycle from concept through scale-up to manufacturing.
- Build capabilities by developing new experimental workflows, introducing analytical and processing equipment, and implementing automation.
- Work closely with engineering and manufacturing partners to achieve product scale-up and manufacturing goals.
- Interface with research partners and intellectual property counsel to protect product innovations.
- Focus on hands-on material testing, technical problem solving, data collection, and analysis.
- Supervise and collaborate with junior colleagues.
- Be proactive and accountable in solving problems and inefficiencies.
- Work closely with the R&D Director and bench scientists to continuously learn and improve materials and processes.
- Generate clear technical documentation, experimental reports, and presentations to communicate results.
What We're Looking For
- A PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Material Engineering.
- 4+ years of R&D or manufacturing industry experience, or a Postdoc in materials research.
- Scientific problem solving at the molecular level with a focus on graphitic materials, cellular solids and foams, composite materials, or related systems.
- Scientific rigor with a focus on quality over quantity and attention to details.
- Strong hands-on lab skills, problem-solving ability, and experience with safe lab set-up and chemical handling.
Nice to Have
- Experience with NMR, GC, LC, SEM, XRD, TGA, DSC, Raman/IR, or other materials analytical techniques.
- Skills in Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma, or other process development tools.
- Knowledge of polyurethane or other foam manufacturing processes.
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE), Bayesian Optimization, and modern data analysis using Machine Learning and other AI approaches (JMP, Minitab, Python).
- Implementation knowledge and use of lab automation; self-driving lab experience is a plus.
- Experience with furnace safety and set-up, atmosphere control with multiple gasses, or CVD.
- Project management experience with Gantt, Agile, or other methods.
Technical Stack
- Analytical: NMR, GC, LC, SEM, XRD, TGA, DSC, Raman/IR
- Software: JMP, Minitab, Python
Team & Environment
You will be part of the support team that services the entire Endeavour ecosystem, reporting to the R&D Director.
Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation range: $100,000—$120,000 USD.
- A flexible, autonomous work environment.
- Growth and travel opportunities.
