About the Role

The Center for Radical Innovation for Social Change (RISC) at the University of Chicago is seeking a Senior Research Analyst to conduct quantitative and qualitative research on a wide variety of social problems and work with organizational partners to pilot creative solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Manage projects related to pressing social issues.
  • Conduct background research through academic literature reviews, expert conversations, media analysis, and data analysis.
  • Identify constructive approaches and present findings to colleagues, partners, and funders.
  • Work with partners to pilot unconventional solutions, from applying technology to designing incentive structures.
  • Lead the planning and execution of recruiting for new team members.
  • Train, coach, and develop newest team members.
  • Plan and execute events to enhance team morale.
  • Monitor analysts’ workloads and make recommendations for re-balancing assignments.
  • Take an outsize role in ensuring the new project pipeline is full.
  • Administer research projects by applying principles and subject matter knowledge.
  • Manage lab and research-related duties with a moderate level of direction.
  • Help develop, design, and conduct research projects.
  • Support data collection and analytical needs.
  • Conduct literature reviews and help write reports and manuscripts.
  • Ensure project compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and mandates.
  • Perform non-laboratory duties such as transcribing data, developing instruments, presenting research, and recruiting subjects.

What We're Looking For

  • A college or university degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Nice to Have

  • Proficiency in data analysis, manipulation, and visualization (R, Stata, Excel, SQL, Python).

  • Familiarity with RCT/experimental design and implementation in a social science field.
  • Self-starter, able to juggle multiple priorities with minimal oversight.
  • Intensely curious, eager to dive into new issue areas and draw conclusions.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; able to break down large problems and identify new directions without clear right answers.
  • Comfortable changing your mind in the face of new information.
  • Highly resilient and able to overcome setbacks without being discouraged.
  • Strong communicator who can introduce ideas effectively, whether in writing or in presentations.
  • Able to work collaboratively and effectively on a small team, wearing multiple hats and honing ad-hoc processes.
  • Comfortable working with and drawing conclusions from data.
  • Inspired by the mission; interested in the work regardless of previous paths.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for data and analytics.
  • Exceptional record of academic achievement, and possess strong analytical, problem-solving, writing and presentation skills.
  • Proven record of leadership in a work setting or through extracurricular activities.
