At Plain, a Series A startup, we’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to own the evolution of our infrastructure and tooling. Your mission is to make Plain scale with our customers and dramatically accelerate product teams. You will help define and execute the future of our platform architecture to ensure Plain remains fast, reliable, and secure as we grow.
What You'll Do
- Lead key infrastructure initiatives like building support for multi-region deployments, overhauling pre-production and test environments, and tackling performance across the stack.
- Build infrastructure that empowers other engineers by improving deployment speed, reducing test flakiness, and enabling faster iteration.
- Define how we evolve our use of AWS, set patterns and practices for managing infrastructure-as-code, and help balance technical ambition with pragmatic delivery.
- Make high-leverage, business-impactful decisions that help deliver value to customers faster and more safely.
- Iterate on our underlying architecture to enable faster shipping.
- Work on projects like simplifying our architecture, migrating away from DynamoDB, building our observability stack, adding multi-region support, and rethinking how engineers provision, build, debug, and monitor services.
- Keep Plain the most secure place for our customers' data.
What We're Looking For
- Experience owning infrastructure in early-stage product companies.
- Experience helping teams go from scrappy early-stage infrastructure and practices to mature and resilient systems.
- Deep familiarity with AWS, including its sharp edges, and the ability to guide architectural decisions in a way that’s practical and pragmatic.
- A focus on accelerating teams and delivering value over building the most elegant system or using novel technologies.
- Energy from building things that compound over time—systems, processes, and environments that make everyone around you better.
- You still enjoy building product features.
- Pragmatic judgement about cost versus value decisions, aligned with Plain's business goals.
