About the Role

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is hiring a Senior Philanthropy Consultant to serve as a key member of our Global Development team. You will report to the Director of Philanthropy Consulting and be responsible for leading the management and growth of a bench of external consultants who deliver services to internal philanthropy teams to meet ambitious campaign goals. This role is central to advancing our mission to protect the lands and waters upon which all life depends.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the management and growth of a bench of external consultants to deliver consulting services to internal philanthropy teams.
  • Deliver services including campaign planning and feasibility studies, internal assessments, case development, donor and volunteer engagement, pipeline development, strategic fundraising counsel, and campaign management.
  • Develop and ensure methodology, tools, and resources are comprehensive and consistent with TNC’s fundraising approach.
  • Train and coach external consultants in the use of methodology, tools, and resources.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of systems and resources managed by the team and apply this knowledge to coordinate organizational support and plan communications.
  • Stay up to date on market trends and best practices to improve services.
  • Analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions to improve effectiveness.
  • Design and lead collaborative, complex, and diversified projects, coordinating the work of other professionals, managing a budget, and ensuring accountability.
  • Direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high-profile or sensitive agreements.
  • Field inquiries from prospective clients to understand and match their needs with services offered.
  • Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external requirements.
  • Define the scope of services for prospective clients, including project schedules, team members, and deliverables.
  • Facilitate strategic dialogues with senior-level stakeholders to articulate a development vision, synthesize plans, and implement solutions.
  • Work within a budget and negotiate and contract with vendors.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Manage and implement strategic initiatives with broad impact by collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Act independently, resolving complex issues within scope.
  • Serve as project advisor, supporting project leads, coordinating work of project support staff, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Mobilize and coordinate resources needed beyond the consulting team, such as data analysis, graphic design, and proofreading/editing.
  • Travel frequently and on short notice, and work long hours and weekends.
  • Work proactively towards implementing organizational and departmental strategic goals.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years related experience, including 3 years as a consultant to a fundraising program.
  • End-to-end fundraising campaign experience.
  • Experience analyzing program results.
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising program constituents.
  • Program management and experience managing cross-functional projects.
  • People or vendor or contractor management.
  • Good written communication skills.
  • Experience working across complex organizations.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in current trends in relevant field.
  • Ability to make strategic decisions based on analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
  • Ability to train on and direct complex processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work in partnership with others in a collaborative or advisory role, including senior staff.

Nice to Have

  • Cross-cultural experience fundraising from donors outside of the US.

This is a remote position open to candidates located within the continental United States.
