Shell is hiring a Senior OT Security Engineer

About the Role

Shell is looking for a Senior OT Security Engineer responsible for the security and overall management of QGC Operational Technology. You will represent the OT Security discipline with expert understanding of Control Systems and cyber risk management in industrial environments, working with vendors and contractors to secure the OT landscape.

What You'll Do

  • Create and maintain logical and physical network drawings of OT components.
  • Monitor and execute user access control and user profile management for servers and networks based on documented business approval.
  • Maintain and document OT security measures, ensure compliance with information security requirements, manage risk registers, and oversee EOL systems.
  • Enforce stringent access controls, manage system/user access (including remote access), handle password policies, and ensure competence of authorized users.
  • Monitor systems for security alerts, review logs, manage antivirus and patching, handle incident response, and maintain disaster recovery and backup capabilities.
  • Oversee OT systems including ICSS, Electrical, and PAS; review data communication security; manage vulnerabilities and supplier access securely.
  • Evaluate and document security controls, manage audits and assurance processes, define and close remediation actions, and support lifecycle management.
  • Provide technical input on OT architecture, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery; support control system modifications and preventative maintenance plans.
  • Manage CSIT engineers across sites, conduct site visits to locations like Chinchilla and Curtis Island, and ensure execution of SEAM-Maintenance processes.

What We're Looking For

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar certification.
  • Significant experience in a similar role; support/administration of IT infrastructure services and business risk management.
  • Knowledge of IEC 62443 and experience working in an OT environment such as oil and gas, mining, or utilities.
  • Must be able to travel to remote field locations for short periods.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and manage relationships in a virtual, geographically dispersed, and cross-cultural environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Proven background in IT support for business applications/infrastructure, with strong knowledge of firewalls, routers, switches, TCP/IP protocols, IP addressing, and ITIL processes.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of handling concurrent tasks under pressure while maintaining quality and compliance.

Nice to Have

  • Cybersecurity industry certification such as Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), Certificates in Network (CCNA or equivalent), Operating Systems (Windows MCSA modules), or Cyber Security: SSCP.
  • Project management experience.
  • Exposure to Instrumentation/Control, Production, and Operations.

Work Mode

This is an onsite role based in Queensland, Australia, with required travel to Chinchilla and Curtis Island.
