About the Role
This role involves leading mechanical design efforts for reactor modules, including concept development, detailed design, analysis, testing, and certification. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, reliable, and code-compliant systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and development of reactor module components
- Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings
- Perform structural, thermal, and fluid dynamic analyses
- Ensure designs meet safety, regulatory, and industry standards
- Collaborate with systems, safety, and licensing teams
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation activities
- Identify and mitigate design risks early in development
- Apply advanced materials and manufacturing techniques
- Interface with external vendors and technical partners
- Document design decisions and engineering rationale
- Ensure compliance with ASME, ASTM, and other relevant codes
- Lead design reviews and technical evaluations
- Optimize designs for performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Support regulatory submissions and inspections
- Integrate feedback from testing into design improvements
- Manage technical aspects of subcontracted design work
- Develop and maintain design specifications and requirements
- Apply systems engineering principles to component design
- Ensure traceability from requirements to final design
- Work within agile development environments
- Support root cause analysis for design-related issues
- Maintain configuration control of design documentation
- Contribute to failure mode and effects analyses
- Ensure designs support automated manufacturing processes
- Stay current with advancements in nuclear and mechanical technologies
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in mechanical or nuclear engineering
- Experience with liquid metal or advanced reactor systems
- Knowledge of nuclear licensing processes
- Experience with safety analysis methodologies
- Familiarity with digital twin or model-based engineering
- Experience in a startup or high-growth technical environment
- Project management experience
- Experience with agile development frameworks
- Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes
