The Senior Manager OSP leads the end-to-end delivery of fiber infrastructure builds across the UK and mainland Europe. This role oversees a team of fiber design engineers, OSP/ISP project managers, and GIS specialists, ensuring seamless execution from initial survey through to project acceptance. The position coordinates with sales, engineering, and external parties including local authorities and civil contractors, while maintaining accurate network documentation and compliance with health, safety, and quality standards. The role also involves direct customer engagement, outage response, and on-site presence as needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of fiber design, OSP/ISP, and GIS professionals to deliver optical network infrastructure projects from tender through to completion.
- Oversee daily operations of construction and fiber engineering vendors to accelerate cabling, splicing, testing, and project delivery.
- Review and approve fiber optic network designs tailored to specific project requirements.
- Develop detailed cost estimates and bills of materials for proposed builds.
- Produce and distribute high-level design and installation documentation.
- Evaluate as-built network records and fiber test data to confirm accuracy and compliance.
- Support sales efforts by creating route maps and cost projections for potential customer opportunities.
- Collaborate with project managers to resolve quality issues before customer acceptance.
- Maintain accurate and validated network data in Salesforce for both customer and internal infrastructure projects.
- Manage relationships with local authorities, third parties, and right-of-way stakeholders.
- Work closely with rights acquisition teams to secure permits and building access agreements.
- Conduct health, safety, and quality assurance inspections to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Provide technical guidance on telecom civil works and optical cable deployment in external and datacenter environments.
- Serve as primary point of contact for customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Participate in customer meetings and travel to client or construction sites as required.
- Monitor project budgets, timelines, and documentation using Salesforce and manual tracking tools.
- Support procurement activities for project-related equipment and materials.
- Assist in bid development, including network design, infrastructure planning, and budget estimation.
- Maintain up-to-date project records to manage risk, communication, and financial oversight.
- Respond to network outages and lead emergency restoration efforts as part of on-call duties.
Requirements
- At least three years of experience in the telecommunications industry with focus on outside plant, fiber optics, optical transport, and project management.
- Proven experience managing large-scale capital projects and various types of outside plant construction.
- Working knowledge of OSP processes including construction, site preparation, permitting, testing, and acceptance.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and analyze optical test results and specifications.
- Proficiency with common office software including email, MS Excel, Word, Google Docs, Visio, Google Earth, AutoCAD, and Smallworld GIS.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with 'fast reporter' tools is a strong advantage.
- Experience using Salesforce.com for project or data management is beneficial.
- Ability to manage multiple fast-paced RFPs and meet aggressive design and construction deadlines.
