Position Overview
This role is central to the financial integrity and operational efficiency of a purpose-driven organization. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Manager acts as the primary support and successor, leading all aspects of corporate finance and accounting. The position ensures accurate, timely financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective management of accounting systems and personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end financial operations, including month-end and year-end close processes, general ledger management, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
- Ensure strict compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards (FASB ASC 958), and US government regulations, including 2 CFR 200 and FAR Subpart 31.7
- Oversee fund accounting for restricted and unrestricted funds, maintaining clear segregation and reporting
- Direct the annual budgeting process, analyzing variances and providing insights to support strategic decision-making
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to leadership, highlighting trends and financial health
- Coordinate audit activities, including preparation for single audits and engagement with external auditors
- Manage cash flow forecasting, treasury operations, and investment tracking in alignment with organizational policies
- Supervise and develop finance team members, fostering professional growth and accountability
- Support the Controller in board-level reporting and engagement with audit and finance committees
- Train project leaders on financial procedures and ensure alignment between project and corporate accounting
- Lead internal control design and maintenance to safeguard assets and ensure regulatory compliance
- Assist in the preparation and negotiation of NICRA submissions to the US government
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate direct reports, promoting a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, along with at least 10 years of progressive finance experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory capacity. Expertise in nonprofit financial reporting, USG regulations, and audit coordination is essential. Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills are required, with proven ability to manage complex financial systems and lead diverse teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas), ERP systems, and financial platforms such as Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and QuickBooks
- CPA or equivalent certification is preferred
- Experience in fast-growing, resource-constrained environments is highly valued
- Demonstrated success in translating financial data for non-financial stakeholders

Work Environment
This is a hybrid position, open to remote candidates with periodic travel to the Hallowell, ME office. Compensation & Benefits
