Lead the execution of a high-impact biodiversity initiative aimed at strengthening marine conservation through data transparency and technological innovation. This interim leadership role will guide strategic implementation toward global targets, particularly the 30x30 goal under the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, with a focus on marine protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures.
What You'll Do
- Drive key components of the organization’s strategic plan, including grant delivery and policy engagement centered on transparency as a lever for biodiversity protection.
- Identify and build relationships with strategic partners to expand operational reach and policy influence.
- Support international policy efforts by advancing open data as a foundation for government commitments and conservation outcomes.
- Guide technical development of the Marine Manager tool, ensuring alignment with conservation objectives and user needs.
- Collaborate on the design and rollout of training programs to build capacity in biodiversity monitoring and data use.
- Represent the organization to stakeholders, including policymakers, funders, and media, communicating insights from data and tools.
- Monitor progress against key impact areas and contribute to the organization’s monitoring, evaluation, and learning framework.
- Provide cross-functional guidance to regional teams, ensuring coherence between local interventions and global strategy.
- Assess progress on 30x30 implementation across priority geographies, identifying gaps and opportunities for intervention.
- Support fundraising initiatives, manage grant budgets, and help refine internal systems and procedures to ensure effective delivery.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field.
- Proven experience in international biodiversity, fisheries, or ocean governance work across national and global contexts.
- Familiarity with the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and related policy processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strategic thinker with strong organizational and analytical abilities, capable of working independently.
- Skilled in building and maintaining partnerships, with a track record of advancing complex projects in decentralized environments.
- Experience managing consultants, drafting project scopes, and leading cross-team initiatives.
- Comfortable working in a remote, globally distributed team structure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience supporting government efforts in implementing 30x30 commitments.
- Knowledge of the Global Environment Facility and related funding mechanisms.
- Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Portuguese.
- Public speaking experience and media engagement skills.
