Genomics England is hiring a Senior Genomic Data Scientist for a 2-year fixed-term contract to join our Adult Population Genomics Programme. In this role, you will lead pharmacogenomics-focused analytical work, shaping the programme's strategy and generating insights from large-scale genomic and health data to advance population-level precision medicine.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to study design and planning from a statistics and evaluation perspective, including power calculations, sample size calculations, and outcomes modelling.
- Assess and benchmark technologies and bioinformatics tools for processing and analyzing whole genome data for pharmacogenomics and adult disease risk prediction.
- Collaborate with Bioinformatic Engineers on the development of data processing pipelines, including setting requirements and overseeing validation, testing, and impact assessment.
- Conduct custom computational analyses on whole genome sequencing datasets.
- Research scientific literature, identify novel approaches to genome analysis, and contribute to publications and dissemination of findings.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience in human germline DNA analysis within a pharmacogenomics context.
- Deep understanding and hands-on experience with a broad range of bioinformatic techniques, especially related to whole genome sequencing, complex loci, haplotypes, and pharmacogenomics variant interpretation tools and databases.
- Proficiency in programming with a working knowledge of python, statistics, cloud-scale or high-performance computing, and experimental design including sample size and power calculations.
- Proven experience contributing to genomic research or analysis projects from planning to delivery, with outputs such as publications or contributions to large-scale initiatives.
- A collaborative, curious, and innovative mindset, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, work effectively across teams, and apply automation to enhance analytical workflows.
Nice to Have
- Experience leading collaborative projects, chairing meetings, communicating complexity to non-technical stakeholders, and focusing on decisions that unlock value for study participants.
- Ability to inspire and motivate team members, deliver to deadlines, and make delivery-oriented, data-driven strategic decisions.
- Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
- Prior experience working in highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary environments.
