HRL Laboratories is hiring a Senior Focal Plane Engineer for its Vision Systems Laboratory in Camarillo, CA. You will be responsible for the development of advanced focal plane arrays, from initial concept through to integration and test.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design, analysis, and development of focal plane arrays for imaging systems.
- Oversee the fabrication, packaging, and testing of focal plane components.
- Integrate focal plane hardware with optical systems and readout electronics.
- Characterize and validate system performance against requirements.
- Document designs, test procedures, and results for internal and customer review.
What We're Looking For
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience developing focal plane arrays or similar optoelectronic systems.
- Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics, especially for photodetectors.
- Proven experience with cleanroom fabrication processes and device characterization.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Nice to Have
- Experience with infrared detector technologies and cryogenics.
- Familiarity with digital and analog readout integrated circuits (ROICs).
- Proficiency with simulation tools for device modeling.
- Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior engineers.
