Responsibilities
- Provide specialized technical expertise and design support for a diverse array of infrastructure projects
- Work on major roads, public transport systems, non-motorized transport, railway corridors, ports and harbors, and urban developments across Africa and beyond
- Coordinate small to mid-size project teams of discipline-led engineers
- Perform specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment as an experienced engineer
- Provide specialised technical input into studies and design work for the expertise and identify discrepancies in results
- Develop design by gathering, correlating and analysing engineering data using computer software and established procedures and standards
- Follow existing or develop design procedures to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective work by self and others
- Participate in and create an interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
- Have knowledge of construction costs relating to their specific areas of design
- Gather and correlate engineering data using established and well-defined procedures
- Prepare technical specifications
- Perform work under the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision
- Undertake technical coordination with authorities for approvals
- Solve problems encountered using knowledge, innovation and modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous works
- Contribute to the area of expertise, providing proposed improvements to existing processes and delivers solutions where precedent may not exist
- Perform technical quality reviews of design calculations, transportation models and drawings, including documentation in project record by adhering to quality, occupational health and safety and corporate standards
- Develop cost estimates and estimates of technical effort/man-hours for projects
- Maintain and develop the highest level of technical skills and abilities
- Mentor junior staff
- Begin to build and maintain client relationships
- Attend client meetings as technical support to gather information and discuss project requirements, explain/defend work, etc.
- Participate in the development and preparation of bids and proposals
- Present solutions to clients in a professional and technically competent manner
- Act as Project Manager on small to medium size discipline-specific projects
- Have an excellent understanding of project delivery requirements and be well versed with project delivery procedures
- Be well versed in the use of project management principles to assess the progress of design against budget
Requirements
- Proven experience as an experienced engineer performing specific and moderate portions of broader assignments
- Ability to provide specialised technical input into studies and design work and identify discrepancies in results
- Proficiency in gathering, correlating and analysing engineering data using computer software and established procedures and standards
- Experience in developing design through data analysis and application of standards
- Ability to follow or develop design procedures to ensure high-quality, cost-effective outcomes
- Experience in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
- Knowledge of construction costs relat
Nice to Have
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent
- Experience with transportation modeling software and tools
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent communication and client-facing abilities
- Experience working on infrastructure projects in Africa or similar regions
