AECOM is hiring a Senior Engineer - Active travel and Sustainable Transport

Lead the development and implementation of active travel and sustainable transport solutions across key urban centers in Ireland, including Belfast, Dublin, Cork, and Coleraine. This role demands strong technical expertise in cycling infrastructure, streetscape design, and sustainable mobility, with a focus on delivering safe, accessible, and innovative transport networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, review, and execution of active travel and cycling projects, ensuring alignment with recognized standards such as the NI Active Travel Design Guide, Cycling by Design, and TII guidelines.
  • Ensure technical compliance and consistency across projects in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
  • Collaborate with clients, local authorities, and contractors to resolve design challenges and advance project delivery.
  • Coordinate inputs from multiple disciplines including highways, drainage, structures, environmental planning, and urban design to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support graduate engineers through mentoring, technical guidance, and performance oversight to foster professional growth.
  • Represent the team in design reviews, workshops, and stakeholder meetings, contributing to best practice development and technical innovation.
  • Support business growth through bid contributions, knowledge sharing, and internal capability building.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven leadership in active travel or sustainable transport design projects.
  • Experience managing compliance with key design frameworks including DMRB, SRW, MCHW, and national cycling standards.
  • Track record in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering complex urban transport schemes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with public and private sector stakeholders.
  • Commitment to mentoring early-career engineers and promoting high-quality technical outputs.
