About the Role

Lumen Technologies is hiring a Senior Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for the technical, hands-on design and validation of systems supporting Lumen’s Government and commercially managed services platforms. This role is critical to maintaining our national fiber optic and Layer 2/3 switched network addressing critical infrastructure protection.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and maintain capacity planning on sites and segments across a national fiber optic and Layer 2/3 switched network.
  • Track equipment slot availability, optical capacity, Carrier Ethernet capacity, and MPLS Segment Routing capacity.
  • Manage power, cooling, and Aging/End of Life equipment tracking.
  • Plan network upgrades to ensure bandwidth ahead of demand.
  • Update site route maps.
  • Work with contractors and customers to deliver and integrate requirements meeting all testing and validation specifications.
  • Provide design review information for Design Review Packages.
  • Facilitate circuit delivery, integration, activation, and service migrations.
  • Provide cost models for equipment and labor needed for new sites, routes, and services.
  • Directly interface with Government customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal Lumen groups.
  • Provide architecture assistance for installation teams.
  • Understand and adhere to Federal, customer site, and company policies.
  • Update network drawings using MS Visio and other software.
  • Create technology briefs on new products and services with recommendations and rough order magnitude pricing.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience designing, building, installing, and maintaining Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 networks.
  • Knowledge of optical equipment, Carrier Ethernet, SR-MPLS, and wavelength division multiplexing.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen with an active TOP SECRET/SCI Level clearance.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related work experience.
  • Knowledge of Ciena, Juniper, and Infinera equipment.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing solicitation documents and developing solutions.
