The Senior Distribution Engineer will lead electrical distribution engineering initiatives, focusing on system design, analysis, and compliance with NESC and client-specific standards. This hybrid role requires three days per week in the office and two days remote, supporting utility clients through project execution and field coordination.
Responsibilities
- Lead the creation and management of electrical distribution engineering work packages
- Conduct engineering design and technical analysis for distribution systems
- Work on programmatic, capital, and reliability improvement projects including third-party attachments, make-ready work, transformer loading, reconductoring, voltage adjustments, distributed generation, FLISR, and underground conversions
- Manage quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) processes for assigned team deliverables
- Participate in design quality reviews prior to client submissions
- Engage in client discussions to review engineering design packages
- Evaluate and organize existing program workloads and project documentation
- Analyze project scope and ensure adherence to schedules while aligning with client priorities
- Communicate directly with clients as needed to support project execution
- Provide engineering support during construction phases
- Conduct post-construction evaluations to verify compliance with engineering and construction standards
- Coordinate with other utilities and resolve field engineering conflicts
- Support the development of work permits, easements, and right-of-way applications
- Operate effectively in both field and office environments
- Perform site visits to collect field data for work package development
- Contribute to team hiring and staffing decisions
Requirements
- Minimum of four years of experience in electric distribution projects within a consulting firm or utility company
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution; relevant experience may substitute for degree in specific cases
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
- Proven experience in engineering design quality control processes
- Familiarity with pole loading analysis software such as O-Calc or Pole Foreman
- Ability to use a personal vehicle for client-related travel, with reimbursement at IRS-approved rates
- Willingness to perform both field and office-based engineering tasks
- Capability to work in outdoor environments when necessary
- May be required to conduct customer site visits to gather field data
- Must hold a valid U.S. driver's license

- Prior experience in quality assurance and quality control (QAQC)
- Experience estimating project costs, developing bills of materials (BOM), and calculating CIAC
- Demonstrated experience in client communication and interaction

Compensation
Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00. Job-related travel reimbursed at IRS-approved rates
