About the Role

Affirm is hiring a Senior Counsel, Product to join its International Product Legal team. In this role, you will provide legal support for the servicing and underwriting lifecycle of our payments and Buy Now, Pay Later loan products, with a focus on Australia's regulatory environment, while engaging in strategic projects that advance the company's objectives.

What You'll Do

  • Counsel business teams and cross-functional stakeholders on consumer financial services laws and regulations, including Australia Consumer Credit and Consumer Protection Laws, regulatory compliance, and frameworks for payments, e-commerce, and online platforms.
  • Support the origination and servicing of Affirm's loan and payment products.
  • Provide strategic legal advice on Australia consumer finance and protection laws.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments in consumer lending and servicing.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, sharing legal expertise and support with teammates.
  • Identify and evaluate business and legal risks, partnering on creative problem-solving.
  • Draft terms and conditions, disclosures, and review marketing copy.
  • Create and solve initiatives related to new and existing products to support business partners.
  • Work independently and learn regulations and laws in other jurisdictions.

What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of related business, government, or fintech experience, preferably with a focus on Payments, Consumer Credit, Banking, or BNPL.
  • Qualified lawyer in Australia, UK, or an equivalent jurisdiction, with a minimum of 5 years of professional legal experience.
  • Established expertise in all areas of the consumer credit lifecycle, including originations, underwriting, licensing, KYC/AML, servicing, credit reporting, and collections.
  • Experience developing creative approaches to legal challenges while providing business-focused advice.
  • Strong project management, critical thinking, creativity, and analytical skills.
  • Passion for improving credit products and consumer experiences.

Nice to Have

  • 7 years of professional legal experience.
  • A combination of private practice and in-house experience.

  • Compensation: GBR base pay range per year: £133,000 – £173,000
