Lumen is hiring a Senior Construction Engineer

This role is central to the successful delivery of large-scale telecommunications infrastructure, combining technical expertise with leadership in project execution. The Senior Construction Engineer ensures alignment between engineering design, construction practices, and business objectives, overseeing complex OSP and civil projects from concept through completion. This position plays a key role in driving innovation, efficiency, and safety across field operations while mentoring junior engineers and influencing long-term strategic planning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and evaluate detailed plans for large, technically complex projects, including phased delivery schedules, resource and budget needs, risk analysis, governance frameworks, and forecasting for future initiatives.
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams composed of internal staff, external contractors, and engineering firms, establishing clear roles and fostering high-performance collaboration.
  • Ensure timely project completion by driving vendor performance and managing competing priorities under aggressive timelines.
  • Oversee end-to-end deployment of network solutions, from architectural design and construction methods to material selection, field installation, testing, and handover to operations and customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least five years of relevant professional experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Outside Plant (OSP) engineering standards and practices, including trenching, boring, fiber pulling, overpulling, and aerial and underground telecom construction.
  • Experience in civil engineering and construction related to site development projects.
  • Hands-on involvement in the full lifecycle of OSP or civil projects, including estimating, engineering, permitting, and construction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and various mapping software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with peer managers and operational teams to ensure project success.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of fiber network management principles such as route planning, fiber allocation, capacity tracking, splicing, testing, and power requirements.

Compensation

Location Based Pay Ranges: $82,969 - $110,625 in AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY. $87,117 - $116,156 in CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI. $91,266 - $121,688 in AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA. Bonus structure includes short-term incentives, long-term incentives, and/or sales compensation.
