MyFlorida's Department of Management Services is seeking a Senior Community Health Nurse for a twelve-month role dedicated to the school health program in St. Lucie County. You will work in schools, community settings, and Florida Department of Health locations, often independently, and act as a team leader for unlicensed health aides, all to support the mission of protecting and improving the health of all Floridians.
What You'll Do
- Perform statutorily mandated vision, hearing, scoliosis, and growth and development screenings throughout St. Lucie County; refer abnormal results and document outcomes.
- Delegate to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAPs) by developing Nursing Care Plans and Emergency Action Plans for students with chronic conditions, providing training, and monitoring competency.
- Assess, plan, develop, and implement health education classes for students, teachers, the community, and parents on topics like nutrition, sun safety, water safety, and hand washing.
- Attend 504 and IEP meetings, collaborating with parent/guardian, student, school staff, and healthcare providers.
- Monitor school immunizations by running monthly reports and collaborating with the school district; administer immunizations in clinics, schools, and community outreaches.
- Complete required annual vaccine administration training.
- Provide immunization services including vaccinating children and adults, updating records, processing requests, completing college forms, administering travel vaccines and PPD tests, and assisting with outbreak response.
- Submit quarterly grant reports including success stories, aggregate outcomes, demographics, and group activities.
- Assist with laboratory duties, TB department duties, and clinic duties in family planning, STD testing/treating, and RN protocol.
- Serve as a preceptor for nursing students, participate on community and agency committees, attend required meetings and training, and maintain active membership in the School Health Advisory Council.
What We're Looking For
- Willingness to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours in the event of an emergency.
- Current, active Florida Registered Nursing License or a multistate Registered Nursing License from another Compact State.
- Valid Driver’s License (position requires driving your own and/or a state vehicle to different locations).
- One year of nursing experience.
- Current CPR certification.

Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation: $2307.70 bi-weekly.
