Cropster is hiring a Senior Accountant (f/m/d)

About the Role

Lead the evolution of global accounting in a high-growth technology company. As a Senior Accountant, you’ll take full ownership of the accounting cycle across Austrian and US entities, ensuring precision, compliance, and scalability. Reporting directly to the CFO, you’ll play a central role in strengthening financial controls, streamlining processes, and enabling accurate reporting across jurisdictions.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage end-to-end accounting processes including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, accruals, and deferrals to ensure timely and accurate monthly closes.
  • Prepare financial statements and management reports in compliance with UGB and US GAAP for both local and consolidated reporting needs.
  • Oversee statutory filings, tax compliance, and audit coordination, including VAT, corporate income tax, and withholding obligations.
  • Support group consolidation by maintaining consistent accounting policies across international entities.
  • Design and document intercompany workflows, including transfer pricing and cross-entity billing.
  • Handle multi-currency accounting with accurate foreign exchange treatment and reporting.
  • Lead the evaluation and implementation of modern accounting tools to increase automation and reduce manual effort.
  • Identify process improvements and drive initiatives that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation to support onboarding, audits, and continuous knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborate with FP&A on budgeting and forecasting activities at both entity and group levels.
  • Act as the main liaison for auditors, external advisors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Help guide and develop junior team members while aligning closely with finance colleagues in the US.
  • Promote a culture of standardization, quality, and continuous improvement across finance operations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in full-cycle accounting within fast-paced tech or SaaS environments, particularly with recurring revenue models and revenue recognition.
  • Strong working knowledge of both UGB and US GAAP, with hands-on experience in financial statement preparation.
  • Experience managing multi-entity accounting structures, intercompany processes, and consolidated reporting.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems such as BMD and AP/AR automation platforms, along with compliance requirements like VAT/GST and transfer pricing.
  • High attention to detail, analytical rigor, and the ability to communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to Have

  • Formal training or education in accounting, tax, or finance—such as commercial academy or Bilanzbuchhalter certification—or prior experience in audit or tax firms.
  • Exposure to international accounting standards including IFRS, UGB, or US GAAP, and comfort working with German-language documentation.
  • Background in startup or early-stage finance, with experience building or scaling accounting functions.
  • A forward-thinking mindset toward automation, AI tools, and distributed collaboration in asynchronous work environments.

Technology & Tools

You’ll work with BMD and automated accounts payable and receivable systems to build a modern, efficient finance infrastructure.

Benefits

  • Education and wellbeing budgets to support personal growth
  • Comprehensive professional development opportunities
  • Remote work and home office setup support
  • Highly flexible hours—no core time requirements
  • Paid leave for volunteer activities
  • Access to mental health resources
  • Tax-advantaged bike leasing program
  • Unlimited high-quality coffee

Compensation

Annual gross salary range: €73,000 to €82,000. An exceptional offer will be made to the right candidate from the start, with no need for negotiation.

Work Environment

This role operates in hybrid mode, with office locations in Vienna and Innsbruck. You’ll benefit from flexible scheduling, remote work options, and a supportive environment designed for autonomy and productivity.
