Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the advanced imaging suite including sample preparation, imaging, and analysis.
- Operate and maintain advanced imaging equipment such as LSM900 confocal, Blaze light-sheet microscopes, live-cell imaging platforms, and Axioscan slide scanner.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems with imaging equipment and liaise with service engineers and technical specialists.
- Oversee data collection and analysis across different imaging platforms.
- Develop software pipelines for quantitative evaluation of cell and tissue-level parameters.
- Support research and innovation goals of the Wound Innovation Institute (WIC) through technical assistance.
- Engage with external industry partners and academic research projects.
- Provide technical support to internal and external users on data analysis, equipment operation, and imaging techniques.
- Adhere to safety guidelines, including proper handling of chemicals and waste disposal.
- Contribute to writing SOPs, COSHH assessments, and risk assessments.
- Update policies and procedures as directed by senior colleagues.
- Maintain and organize imaging data, databases, and records.
- Develop best practices in data management, transfer, and storage.
- Research and adapt new imaging methods for use in the WIC.
- Disseminate new imaging methods to the wider user base.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols, calibration procedures, and quality control measures.
- Update WIC-specific procedures in line with regulatory changes and university policies.
- Interact effectively with UoH staff, students, external users, and industry partners.
Requirements
- Relevant degree in a related field such as biology or biomedical sciences, or equivalent qualification and/or experience.
- Evidence of laboratory imaging experience and ability to demonstrate a high level of technical expertise.
- Ability to operate complex imaging equipment and troubleshoot effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with ability to explain methodologies and procedures.
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and support colleagues.
- Experience in liaising with internal and external stakeholders to improve working practices.
- Knowledge of services available to users and commitment to positive customer experience.
- Ability to plan and prioritise own work to meet deadlines and objectives.
- Demonstrated initiative in problem solving and offering solutions.
- Ability to gather data systematically and carry out basic analysis accurately and methodically.
- High level of coordination and precision in using laboratory techniques.
- Commitment to health and safety practices and improving safe working environments.

- Occasional travel required between Castle Hill Hospital and University campus (10 mins drive).
- May be required to work to tight deadlines.
