About the Role

Mass General Brigham Community Physicians, Inc. is hiring a Respiratory Therapist/Lead Pulmonary Technician in Boston. This role functions as a supervisory member of the patient care team within the Pulmonary Function Laboratory, delivering respiratory therapy services to the Pulmonary ALS Clinic. You will supervise technical training, perform diagnostic pulmonary procedures, and support patient care and education for ventilation therapies.

What You'll Do

  • Supervise technical training, competency assessments, and equipment troubleshooting in coordination with the Lab Manager and Medical Director.
  • Perform diagnostic pulmonary procedures including spirometry, body plethysmography, DLCO, muscle force measurement, oximetry, bronchial provocation testing, nitric oxide analysis, phlebotomy, and blood sample analysis.
  • Oversee maintenance and calibration of pulmonary function testing equipment.
  • Observe, verify, and document both initial and annual competencies for technical skills.
  • Act as the primary contact for troubleshooting equipment and coordinate with external vendors.
  • Monitor PAR levels for disposable supplies and accessories.
  • Ensure a clean and safe testing environment by following proper cleaning, disinfection, and infection control protocols.
  • Support early detection of neuromuscular weakness through forced vital capacity, maximum inspiratory pressure, and peak cough flow measurements, as well as ongoing disease monitoring.
  • Assist with initiation and troubleshooting of non-invasive ventilation therapies.
  • Provide patient education regarding the use of home ventilators and PAP devices for both invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
  • Aid with mask fitting for non-invasive ventilation.
  • Educate patients on the operation of mechanical insufflation-exsufflation (MIE) devices and portable suction equipment for airway clearance.
  • Instruct patients in tracheostomy care and management of tracheostomy tubes.
  • Provide guidance on oxygen concentrator usage and nebulized medication administration via mask-based or machine-based systems.
  • Assist in the collection, download, and interpretation of home ventilation and positive airway pressure therapy data, utilizing remote monitoring technologies.
  • Coordinate with Respiratory Therapists from durable medical equipment providers to support home ventilation needs.

What We're Looking For

  • Graduate of a Co ARC approved respiratory care program with a minimum of an Associate’s degree.
  • Valid MA respiratory care license in good standing.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the NBRC.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients and promote interdisciplinary collaborative teamwork.
  • Strong analytical and organizational abilities necessary to perform multiple diagnostic tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing pace.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and in emergency situations.
  • Ability to understand and operate required equipment and information systems.
  • Physically capable of lifting (linen, supplies, patients, etc).
  • Awareness of hazards within the department; adherence to safety standards.
  • Ability to work with adult, elderly patients, and critically ill patients.
  • Ability to effectively train and evaluate individuals.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all technical and interpersonal competencies as determined by PFT lab and Pulmonary leadership.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 0-1 year of Respiratory Care experience.

Team & Environment

You will be a supervisory member of the patient care team within the Pulmonary Function Laboratory, collaborating closely with the Lab Manager, Medical Director, and other clinical staff.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation: $31.35 - $46.91/Hourly.

This is an onsite role located at 100 Blossom Street, Boston.
